    First, we need to nstall the ftp server for our Linux Server. In this case, we will be using the vsftpd, just execute the command to install from Linux packages.

    sudo apt-get install vsftpd

    Then what we need to do next is to edit our configuration for the vsftpd. Edit the config of vsftpd by opening on file on ssh using vim, nano, etc.

    vim /etc/vsftpd.config

    # Edit or add the following lines:

    – Uncomment the this to enable upload.
    write_enable=YES

    – Add this on the last line to fixed issue. The following command will ensure upload, enable passive connection with ftp client such as the well known Filezilla.

    pam_service_name=ftp
    pasv_enable=Yes
    pasv_max_port=10100
    pasv_min_port=10090

    Now, all you need to do is to start the server, check with status.

    service vsftpd start

    To check if the ftp server is perfectly running. Execute the following command.

    service vsftpd status

    Next is to install ftp client on the server so that we can access other ftp server with our Linux server. Install ftp client, to connect other ftp.

    sudo apt-get install ftp

    Note: If you are using a firewall or deny rule on iptables, open port 21, which is the default ftp ports. If you have problem connecting to your server.

    Now, all things set you can now install all other packages that you will be using. See, Server Admin: Basic Manual for Performance and Security forum for more server administration.
